Giving Priorities

Community Leadership

There is an ongoing need for philanthropic support that will allow Fanning Faculty to work in communities and with organizations that do not have the capacity to pay for leadership development services. Your support for the Fanning Institute will allow us to work in these communities and provide scholarships for Fanning community leadership training.

Nonprofit Capacity Building

Nonprofit institutions are essential to the social and economic vitality of communities. Moreover, government services are increasingly provided by nonprofit organizations. Having strong, skilled leadership in nonprofits is vital for Georgia’s communities. With your support, Fanning can offer nonprofit training that strengthens the operational effectiveness, management and board governance of our state’s nonprofit organizations.

Leadership Sin Limites

Leadership Sin Limites is a summer leadership program that exposes youth to college life while offering a solid sense of safety, structure, membership and belonging for participants to discuss youth and Latino community issues. With your support, Fanning can provide greater opportunities for youth to participate in this program that offers invaluable experiences and mentorships that prepare them for life beyond high school.

Peer Court

Athens Peer Court is a diversionary program that offers arrested youth a chance to have their disposition decided by trained teenagers who serve as lawyers, judges, jurors and bailiff. Your support for the Athens Peer Court will help Fanning fulfill its goal of helping students become leaders in their communities.

The mission of EMBARK is to increase college access and retention for youth who have experienced foster care or homelessness. Your gift will help grow Fanning’s network of support on campus and across the state that aims to improve the chances for every student to complete a degree or certificate program at one of the over 50 USG or TCSG institutions in Georgia.

Planned Giving

Leave a legacy at the Fanning Institute through a gift in your will or estate plans. Your investment in leadership development in Georgia may be a meaningful and significant gift with favorable financial and tax benefits, or an income for life. To discuss the impact you would like to have contact Cherie Duggan Senior Director of Development, or visit UGA’s Planned Giving website.

Supporting Student Work

Service Learning at the J.W. Fanning Institute means “learning by doing” and connecting students with opportunities to put their knowledge into practice in real settings. Fanning serves communities throughout Georgia, and opportunities abound for students to work alongside staff and faculty who are helping create jobs, develop leaders and address the state’s critical challenges. Your support will enable them to travel with faculty and staff into the communities we serve so that they can see firsthand the need, issue or problem, build the critical skills essential to their careers, and earn valuable real-world experience.

Matching Gifts

Many companies match charitable gifts made by employees, board members, retired employees and spouses. Most corporations provide a 1:1 match, while some elect to provide a greater matching amount to further encourage and leverage their employees’ philanthropy. Search our online database to see if your employer or your spouse’s employer has a matching gift program and Increase the impact of your giving.
