The UGA J.W. Fanning Institute for Leadership Development’s advisory board met for its fall meeting on Dec. 12.

During the meeting, held at the J.W. Fanning Building on the University of Georgia campus, advisory board members received an update on the unit’s programs and operations from Fanning Institute Director Matt Bishop, and they also discussed future goals for the institute.

“I am pleased to highlight the institute’s work across Georgia to our advisory board members,” Bishop said. “The advisory board plays a central role in helping the Fanning Institute fulfill its mission to strengthen communities and organizations through leadership development, training, and education.”

With members representing a wide range of leadership experience and coming from a variety of backgrounds in business, civic and community affairs, nonprofit organizations, and higher education, the advisory board helps guide the strategic direction of the Fanning Institute.

“Discussing the institute’s programs and priorities allows the board to provide valuable insight that can help us better shape our work to help develop Georgia’s present and future leaders,” Bishop said. “We appreciate the commitment our advisory board members have to supporting that mission throughout Georgia by offering their support, advice, and counsel.”

Through its community, nonprofit, and youth leadership programs, the Fanning Institute continues to help build a stronger Georgia, said Jimmy Allgood, chairman of the Fanning Institute advisory board.

“We are proud of the work the Fanning Institute’s faculty and staff do each day to further the cause of leadership development in Georgia,” Allgood said. “As a board, we are committed to continuing to support the institute’s efforts, which are vital to the future of our state.”
