Embark Georgia Leadership Conference

May 18, 2017, 11:00 am - May 19, 2017, 2:00 pm

$110

Register for the first Embark Georgia Leadership Conference, which is taking place on Thursday, May 18 and Friday, May 19, 2017, at the University of Georgia Center for Continuing Education & Hotel.

At the conference, attendees will learn more about the issues that young people who have experienced foster care and/or homelessness face while pursuing a postsecondary education and the postsecondary resources available to these young people.

The keynote speaker is Sara Goldrick-Rab, a Professor of Higher Education Policy and Sociology at Temple University. Goldrick-Rab is also the founder of the Wisconsin HOPE Lab, the nation’s only translational research laboratory seeking ways to make college more affordable.

In 2016, POLITICO Magazine named Goldrick-Rab as one of the top 50 people shaping American politics, and her latest book, “Paying the Price: College Costs, Financial Aid, and the Betrayal of the American Dream,” is an Amazon best-seller and has been featured in many different venues.

The Embark Georgia Leadership Conference is open to higher education professionals, case managers, homeless liaisons, private foster care professionals, and any other community partners interested in supporting this group of students.

A program of the J.W. Fanning Institute for Leadership Development, Embark Georgia is a statewide network of support for young people who have experienced foster care and/or homelessness and are enrolled or interested in attending any postsecondary educational institution in Georgia.
