The second annual Embark Georgia Leadership Conference is scheduled for May 16 – 17, 2018 at the Tate Student Center on the campus of the University of Georgia in Athens, Ga.
This conference is a unique event that convenes professionals to consider important issues that young people who have experienced foster care and/or homelessness face while pursuing a postsecondary education and the postsecondary resources available to these young people.
In 2018, the conference will include a new simulation activity, additional sessions, and more networking opportunities. Attendees to this year’s conference will also have a chance to hear from keynote speaker Clare Cady, a scholar-practitioner whose work rests in the intersection of higher education and human services.
Cady has developed programs to address basic needs insecurities among college students including campus pantries, emergency aid funds, housing interventions, and resource centers. She co-founded and directs the College and University Food Bank Alliance, an organization focused on alleviating student hunger, and is engaged in evidence based programming and evaluation at the HOPE Center for College, Community, and Justice at Temple University. Clare’s work has been published in the Journal of College and Character, ACPA’s About Campus, and the Chronicle of Higher Education.
The Embark Georgia Leadership Conference is open to higher education professionals, case managers, homeless liaisons, private foster care professionals, and any other community partners interested in supporting this group of students.
A program of the J.W. Fanning Institute for Leadership Development, Embark Georgia is a statewide network of support for young people who have experienced foster care and/or homelessness and are enrolled or interested in attending any postsecondary educational institution in Georgia.
