2018 Community Leadership Conference Pre-Conference Offerings

February 21, 2018, 1:00 pm - February 22, 2018, 12:00 pm

This year, the Fanning Institute is offering two unique pre-conference sessions prior to the 2018 Community Leadership Conference.

Attendees can choose to attend one of the sessions, both of which will take place from 1-5 p.m. on Feb.21 and 8 a.m.-12 p.m. on Feb. 22. The deadline to register for either of these sessions is Jan. 29, 2018.

Session #1: Youth Leadership in Action Facilitator and Curriculum Training

Kick off the Community Leadership Conference by becoming certified to facilitate the Fanning Institute’s Youth Leadership in Action Curriculum. This research-based curriculum concentrates on youth development and youth leadership with objectives to build individual leadership skills, foster positive group dynamics, and increase civic and community involvement. The facilitator and curriculum training is an interactive experience designed to familiarize adult facilitators with principles of youth development while learning how to facilitate the eight YLIA modules.  Upon completion of the eight-hour training, adult volunteers will be certified to facilitate the curriculum and own the license to use the curriculum for their youth leadership program.

Cost: $350 ($300 if registering for both this pre-conference offering and the 2018 CLC)

Session #2: The Nuts and Bolts of Facilitating Adult Community Leadership Programs

Designed for those who plan, coordinate, and ultimately implement community leadership programs geared toward adult learners, this pre-conference session will present the latest research, trends, and best practices around community leadership development.

It will also “kick off” the Fanning Institute’s new initiative to offer a credential for practitioners within the field of adult community leadership development.

Participants earning this credential will receive the title of Community Leadership Practitioner (CLP), denoting an elevated status within the institute. Certified practitioners would also be identified as “highly qualified” within the broader field of adult community leadership development.

This session, The Nuts and Bolts of Facilitating Adult Community Leadership Development Programs, represents the first step in this new credentialing process. Some of the topics the session will explore include program design, balancing issues & skills development, class projects, adult learning theory, program evaluation, volunteer management, alumni involvement, organizational development, and programmatic finances.

Cost: $100

Registration: Registration is open for both pre-conference sessions and the 2018 Community Leadership Conference. For more information on the conference, click here.
