About Athens Peer Court
Athens Peer Court is a leadership program in which youth volunteers serve as the lawyers, judge and jury in sentencing hearings for youth who have been charged with misdemeanor offenses. These youth volunteers receive training on leadership skills, public speaking and restorative justice to promote behavioral change and reduce recidivism.
Athens Peer Court jurors decide on customized sentences that focus on the harm caused to the community by crime and create opportunities for youth to connect to their community.
