Athens Peer Court Sets Next Set of Training Dates

Our next training will take place on:

  • Thursday, April 18, 2024 from 5:30-8:30 p.m. (dinner provided)
  • Saturday, April 20, 2024 from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. (lunch provided)

Youth volunteers must complete both training sessions.

The training is open to all Clarke County residents who will be in 8th-12th grade during the 2023-24 school year. The program is free, but you do need to have reliable transportation to the trainings and hearings. We ask you to commit an evening a month to Athens Peer Court, with most hearings taking place on Tuesday evenings.

All trainings are held on the UGA campus.

33 complete Athens Peer Court leadership training

On Feb. 4, 2019, Athens Peer Court welcomed its newest group of teen volunteers. Thirty-three volunteers successfully completed the three-day, 12-hour training and are ready to be advocates.

This is the 17th group of students to join Athens Peer Court, which was founded in March 2012, and we look forward to their contributions to Athens Peer Court.

Currently, the program has over 40 volunteers that serve as the advocates, judges, jurors and bailiff in disposition hearings for youth who have been charged with first time offenses.

The program is a collaboration between the UGA J.W. Fanning Institute for Leadership Development, ACC Juvenile Court, the Department of Juvenile Justice and UGA School of Law student organization Street Law.

Athens Peer Court will hold its next volunteer training opportunity in August 2019. For more information, click here.

APC Turns 6!

Athens Peer Court celebrated its sixth anniversary with cake and a celebration for all current volunteers. In addition, we honored our graduating seniors, and we are excited to hear what the future holds for them!

Welcome Our 15th Cohort!

On January 22, 2018 we welcomed new volunteers to Athens Peer Court. This is the 15th cohort of volunteers we have trained since APC began in 2012. The students completed 13 hours of training over three days and then conducted a very impressive mock trial! These students were very fast learners and active participants throughout the training. If you see any of our new volunteers in court, make sure to make them feel welcome!
