Participants understand and apply an asset-based approach to community assessment and use these learnings to inform organizational planning and program development. Participants will learn the theory and value of an asset-based model.

Participants will understand how to effectively integrate and utilize volunteers in organizations, including how to recruit, recognize and retain volunteers. Participants will learn about volunteer roles and organizational responsibilities to volunteers.

Understanding Leadership/For Youth

This session, Understanding Leadership, is designed to provide a foundation for participants to practice leadership. Information is shared about selected leadership theories and concepts, including the characteristics and behaviors of effective leaders. Opportunity is provided for participants to gain new insights about themselves as leaders and to practice selected leadership skills. Finally, participants are challenged to exercise leadership in their daily lives. This foundation provides a basic understanding on which the skills of subsequent sessions are built.

Consensus Building

Participants will learn how to facilitate a consensus building process, how to reach overwhelming agreement; how to make a good faith effort to meet the interest of all stakeholders and how to create a final proposal that everyone can live with.

Group Dynamics

Involves participants in activities designed to enhance their knowledge about effective and ineffective groups, various stages of group development, and the differing roles leaders and followers play when they function in groups.  They are afforded an opportunity to practice group skills by working together to achieve a common goal.  They are also introduced to what motivates people to get involved in their community.
