Georgia Development Authority Handbook
The Georgia Development Authority Handbook brings together for the first time in one volume the fundamental principles of community economic development as practiced in Georgia. It addresses the practical problems faced by Georgia’s public officials who are appointed to positions of economic development leadership and to Georgia’s economic development professionals. Other citizens, professionals, and public officials with an interest in community economic development will also find this book useful. Major topic areas include the legal environment and limits of authorities, the role of authorities and authority board members in the community’s economic development, the major forces that affect a community’s economic development success, the basics of bond finance, and economic development strategies.
The Handbook is written with contributions from over 50 leaders in Georgia’s economic development profession, nearly half of whom have achieved national certification in the field. The authors represent four of Georgia’s research universities, five law firms, seven statewide organizations, and twelve local economic development organizations. In addition, over a dozen independent reviewers provided excellent advice and suggestions, and their constructive criticisms greatly improved the final product.
