Animals In Disaster Planning
| Abstract |
In a process inspired by the plight of pets in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, Fanning Institute faculty are facilitating the development of "Animals in Disaster" Plans (ADP) with UGA's College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, Cooperative Extension personnel, and local Emergency Management Directors. Funded by a Department of Homeland Security grant through the Georgia Emergency Management Agency on behalf of the Association County Commissioners of Georgia, the program relies on community partners, including local veterinarians, to develop county ADP plans that will protect companion animals in future disasters. |
