Athens-Clarke County Comprehensive Plan Public Input Workshops
| Abstract |
Fanning Institute faculty facilitated the launch of the public input process for the Athens-Clarke County Comprehensive Plan. They also provided public meeting facilitation training to the chairpersons of the seven citizen committees charged with developing the Community Agenda for Athens-Clarke County's Comprehensive Plan. Committee members attended a day-long retreat to begin the work of developing plans on population, economic development, environmental and cultural resources, facilities, services and intergovernmental cooperation, housing, land use, and transportation. Fanning Institute faculty also conducted a public meeting facilitation workshop for the Athens-Clarke County Planning Department staff and ACC’s Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee members. The four-hour intensive session was designed to prepare staff and volunteers to gather public input and meet the requirements of Georgia’s Comprehensive Planning process. It covered facilitation basics such as managing group dynamics as well as advanced techniques for accomplishing tasks through agenda setting, the nominal group technique, and Force-Field Analysis. |
