Work Ready Regions

Abstract

Seven regions have been awarded grants by the Governor’s Office of Workforce Development (GOWD) to fulfill the criteria to become Work Ready Regions. Counties in the regions are working together to encourage the development of targeted industries, which will, in turn, hire workers in the region trained in the skills these industries need. The regions are also working toward increasing the number of individuals with Work Ready Certificates, increasing the number of counties with Certified Work Ready Community status, and increasing the number of local employers who complete Work Ready job profiles.

Regional teams meet regularly with the GOWD for Work Ready Region Policy Academies. The first was held March 18. Fanning Institute faculty are providing economic data and maps to the regions and delivered a session during the March Academy.
