Downtown Development Authority Training
| Description |
OverviewTwo distinct classes make up the DDA training program. Attendance by DDA board members as well as elected officials, economic development professional staff, and attorneys enrich the experience, making it a true professional development and networking opportunity as well as a training class. All the speakers are recognized leaders in fields relating to downtown and economic development. Basic DDA TrainingThe Basic Training class was designed specifically to meet the legal requirements in Georgia for downtown development authority board members to receive 8 hours of training within one year of appointment (per Georgia Code sections 36-42-7(d)). Topics covered include legal issues and requirements, historic preservation, funding sources, case studies and a Q and A with seasoned professionals in the field. Fanning conducts four Basic Training classes for the Georgia Cities Foundation yearly at the Georgia Municipal Association’s Legislative Conference, Annual Conference, Spring Training and during the Georgia Downtown Association’s Annual Conference. For registration, contact: On-Site Customized DDA TrainingCustomized training is divided into two main segments: a morning session and an afternoon session. The morning session covers legal issues and requirements and funding sources for projects. The afternoon session involves the development of a customized plan of work designating goals specific to the DDA’s central business district or defined boundaries. The plan of work incorporates the funding sources covered in the morning session and assigns a DDA member to act as a shepherd for one or more specific goals outlined in the plan. Customized training materials are included in the cost of the session, and members of the local governing body are encouraged to attend at no additional charge.
