Biography

In September 2008, Kathleen Cason joined the Fanning Institute where she will assist with communications, marketing and external affairs.

Previously, she served for three years as director of public relations for the Office of the Vice President for Public Service and Outreach at the University of Georgia and was the founding editor of the award-winning Outreach magazine. Prior to that, she was associate director of research communications and associate editor of UGA Research Magazine, which covers science, humanities and social science research.

She has held positions as communications coordinator for an international, multi-institutional U.S. Agency for International Development project and was founding editor of Results, a magazine published by the Georgia Department of Technical and Adult Education.

Kat endured many years in graduate school, cherished her time as a Peace Corps volunteer in Honduras and spent nearly 20 years as a research scientist before discovering the joy of journalism.

She graduated from UGA with a B.S. in microbiology, and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in plant pathology. She was a Peace Corps volunteer in Honduras from 1982-84.
