Biography
Jim Maloney currently serves as the Executive Director/CEO of the Community Leadership Association (CLA), which consists of more than 400 organizational and professional members from around the globe that focus on creating, developing, and strengthening national and international community leadership programs.
Highlights of background and previous work
• Started CLA, chairing the steering committee that created it and serving as its first Chairman of the Board.
• Started more than a dozen community leadership local programs between 1976 and1987.
• Started eight high-tech firms in software, robotics and biotechnology.
• Created and served as Executive Director and CEO for a $1.5 million organizational focused, regional information technology association collaboratively serving corporate and nonprofit groups.
• Worked at two chambers of commerce in leadership and technology-focused economic development.
• Served on a wide variety of small corporate and not-for-profit boards, principally in officer positions.
• Worked in contract research for Midwest Research Institute in Kansas City, consulting in technology assessment, economic modeling, technology focused strategic planning, organizational development and leadership development.
• Taught at every level from middle school through graduate school in areas as diverse as physics, chemistry, leadership strategy, management, and marketing. As a faculty member at a Jesuit university, created innovative programming in leadership and management development.
• Author of or contributor to more than 50 books, monographs, training manuals in technology and leadership (including CLA’s first program development guide and its Trusteeship Program). Have made several hundred national or local presentations in leadership, technology and association management.
Education, training, and special skills
• Undergraduate degree in chemistry, education
• Graduate degree in science technology and public policy
• Graduate work in counseling psychology as well as chemistry, engineering and management.
• Completed Advanced Executive Program at Kellogg (Northwestern)
